Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy experience in our clinic: 9 cases

Aim: Laparoscopic cholecystectomy has become the standard, in most pediatric surgery centers. In this study we aimed that to evaluate the role of laparoscopic cholecystectomy in the management of cholelithiasis in children.

Methods: A retrospective review of our experience with laparoscopic cholecystectomy for cholelithiasis at our clinic, between 2005 to 2010. Data included patient demographics, clinical history, hematological investigations, imaging studies, operative technique, postoperative complications, postoperative recovery, and final histopathological diagnosis.

Results: Nine children with symptomatic cholelithiasis were treated by laparoscopic cholecystectomy (4 males and 5 females). The mean age was 8,5 years (range 4-13years). The surgical indications were symptomatic cholelithiasis in all patients. There were no heamathologic disorders in all patients. All patients were discharged postoperative first day. No complications were noted during the operation and on follow-up,

Conclusion: We thougth that laparoscopic chloecystectomy is a safe and effective treatment for pediatric cholelithiasis.

Laparoskopik Kolesistektomi Deneyimimiz: 9 Olgu
