Parameatal Urethral Cyst

Introduction
Parameatal urethral cyst is an extremely uncommon lesion in childhood. The cyst is mostly asymptomatic, but occasionally may cause urinary retention, painful voiding and pain during coitus. An eight-years-old boy having parameatal urethral cyst who had been treated with total excision was presented.
Case
An eight-years-old boy has referred to our department complaining of a swelling on the tip of penis, for the last two years. His physical examination was normal except a cyctic mass 1x1 in size and in close proximity to external urethral meatus on the ventral side of the glans penis. The laboratory studies were in normal ranges. He underwent total surgical excision of the cyst under general anesthesia. We did not encounter any postoperative complications such as; recurrence of the cyst, urethral stenosis or any other urinary system problems. Histopathological examination of the cyst demonstrated that the inner surface of the cyst was lined with squamous epithelial cells.
Conclusion
Parameatal urethral cyst is a benign and mostly asymptomatic lesion. Although the etiology is unclear, occlusion in parameatal channels, separation faults of the prepuce from the glans, infection and trauma are blamed in the etiology. Total excision of the cyst with a satisfactory cosmesis is the suggested treatment. The cyst wall is commonly lined with columnar or transitional epithelium and rarely lined with squamous epithelium as demonstrated in this case. Postoperative follow-up of the patients is crucial, in terms of urethral stricture development.
