Organ transplantation is the replacement of an organ which has failure with a healthy organ. The main cause of liver transplantation in children is biliary atresia.

Being too long surgeries causes decrease in effectively of the team and distraction; therefore transplantation teams should be constituted and the teams should scrub in respectively.

The most important preparation of the scrub nurse is the preparation of operating rooms and operating tables for donor and recipient. The scrub nurse is also responsible for the recruitment of instruments and drugs that would be used in transplantation (HTK, papaverine), the production of sterile ice that would be used for organ preservation, the preparation of sterile hot solutions that would be used to warm up the organ, if required, the control of sterility, for providing comfort for the surgeons and the patient and most importantly responsible for the security of the operation.

Any deficiency or any failure during transplantation absolutely results in death. Therefore perfect preparation of transplantation certainly affects the course of surgery.

As in other surgeries, the knowledge, the experience and the ability of scrub nurses are very important in transplantation surgeries. A coordinated team work increases success in these surgeries. 

Organ nakli; organ yetmezliklerinde işlevini yitirmiş organın yerine sağlam bir organı koyma, organ aktarımı olarak tanımlanır. Çocuk hastalarda karaciğer naklinin en sık nedenlerinden biri biliyer atrezidir.

Nakil ameliyatlarının uzun sürmesi, ekibin performansının düşmesine ve dikkatinin dağılmasına sebep olmaktadır. Bu nedenle ameliyathanelerde nakil için ekipler oluşturulmalı, her ekip sırası geldikçe nakil ameliyatlarına girmelidir.

Ameliyathane hemşiresinin nakil için yaptığı hazırlıklardan en önemlisi verici ve alıcının ameliyatlarında kullanılacak oda ve masanın hazırlanmasıdır. Ayrıca nakilde kullanılacak her türlü cihaz ve ilaçların temininden (HTK, papaverin), organı soğutmada kullanılacak steril buzların oluşturulmasından, gerektiğinde organı ısıtmak için kullanılacak steril sıcak solüsyonların hazırlanmasından, sterilitenin kontrolü ve devamının sağlanmasından, cerrahın ve hastanın konforunun sağlanmasından ve ameliyatın güvenliğinden sorumludur.

Nakil aşamasındaki bir eksiklik ya da başarısızlık mutlak ölümle sonuçlanır. Bu nedenle ameliyat öncesi hazırlık ve malzemelerin eksiksiz olarak temin edilmesi ameliyatın seyrini önemli ölçüde etkilemektedir.

Her ameliyatta olduğu gibi bu ameliyatta da hemşirelerin bilgisi, becerisi ve deneyimi önemlidir. Ekibin birbiri ile koordineli çalışması başarıyı artırır.
