Objective: The purpose of “Safe Surgery Saves Lives" project is to ensure safety surgical care depending on standards of care proven on all over the world countries. In this study, we aimed to examine the opinions of surgical assistant doctors and operating room nurses in the institution Mersin University about using safe surgery form.

Material and Method: 51 participants (35 surgical assistant doctors and 16 operating room nurses) accepted to participate in this survey study.

Results: 77% of doctors and 56% of nurses accepted that they are using this form as a routine. 83% of doctors and 75% of nurses declared that this form is mandatory. 71% of doctors think that they are wasting their time when using this form. 52% of all participants give correct answers to general questions about the safe surgery form.84% of all participants accepted that they are not using safe surgery form effectively.

Conclusion: More training and interviews are needed to give to surgical teams to increase the affectivity of safe surgery form. İt is a mandatory to use the safe surgery form effectively to protect and maintain the patients’ safety.

Giriş/Amaç: “Güvenli Cerrahi Hayat Kurtarır" projesinin amacı cerrahi bakım güvenliğini, tüm dünya ülkelerinde kanıtlanmış bakım standartlarına dayanarak sağlamaktır. Bu çalışmamızda ise amacımız; Mersin Üniversitesi Sağlık Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezinde görevli cerrahi asistan doktor ve ameliyathane hemşirelerinin güvenli cerrahi formu kullanma hakkındaki görüşlerini incelemektir.

Materyal ve Metod: Mersin Üniversitesi Sağlık Araştırma ve Uygulama Merkezi Hastanesi’nde Cerrahi bölüm ya da ameliyathanede görev yapan 35 asistan hekim, 16 hemşire olmak üzere toplam da 51 kişinin hazırlanan anket sorulara cevap vermeyi kabul etmiştir.

Bulgular: Ankete 35 asistan doktor, 16 ameliyathane hemşiresi katılmıştır. Ankete katılan doktorların %77’si, hemşirelerin %56’sı güvenli cerrahi formunu rutin olarak kullandıklarını belirtmiştir. Doktorların %83’ü, hemşirelerin %75’i güvenli cerrahi formunun kullanımının zorunlu olduğunu bildiklerini ifade etmişlerdir. Doktorların %71’i güvenli cerrahi formunu zaman kaybı olarak değerlendirmiştir. Güvenli cerrahi formuyla ile ilgili genel bilgilerde ise ankete toplam katılanların %52’si doğru cevap vermiştir. Güvenli cerrahi formunun etkin kullanıldığına inanmayanlar ise %84’dür.

Sonuç: Güvenli cerrahi formunun etkin kullanımının artırılabilmesi için ameliyathane ekibiyle görüşme yapılması, güvenli cerrahi formu prosedürünün yeniden okutulması ve eğitim verilmesi gerekmektedir. Hasta güvenliğinin sağlanması ve sürdürülebilmesi için belirlenen prosedürlerin, etkin şekilde uygulanması zorunludur.
