EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTIES DURING PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF NEWBORN MEDICINE IN NEONATAL AND NEONATAL SURGICAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT

Purpose: To determine the difficulties experienced by nurses in neonatal and neonatal surgical intensive care units during drugs preparation and application. Materials and Methods: The study group is formed of 30 nurses who accepted to participate in this study. Data were collected from the participants by asking open ended questions and face to face interviews. Data related to the difficulties experienced during drug preparation and application were collected using forms designed by the researchers. Institutional permission, ethics committee approval and written informed consent to conduct this study were taken. The collected data were represented in a numerical manner and as percentages. Results: Dosage problems due to breaking tablets (%83,3), insolubility and heterogenous distribuion in fluids ( %66,6) are the most seen difficulties durin drug preparation. In this study the nurses also complained of the difficulties with drug application equipments. Dosage problems due to neonates refusal and vomiting of drugs because of theit taste ( % 56,66), aspiration (% 63,33) and unavailability of the necessary drug application equipments ( %60) are the most seen problems. Conclusion: The nurses particapated in this study complained of difficulties during preparation and application. The results of this study of were reported to the hospital administration to find proper solutions.
