SUCCESSFULLY TREATED PEDIATRIC PATIENT WITH MEGARECTUM BY VERTICAL REDUCTION RECTOPLASTY: THE FIRST CASE IN ENGLISH LITERATURE

Megarectum can develop in some patients with
intractable constipation. Because of excessive laxity and hypomotility of the
rectum, this is increases the threshold of sensation in the rectum and leads to
rectal fullnes in poor perception . Finally, more stool accumulate in
megarectum and encopresis occurs. This problem is an extremely annoying status
for the child and family. There are many surgical procedures have recommended
for megarectum, including anterior resection, proctectomy, endorectal
pull-through, Duhamel operation, etc. Their success and morbidity rates are
highly variable. The novel technique for the treatment of megarectum is
vertical reduction rectoplasty (VRR); have been reported only in 16 adult
patients. Here we are presenting a child patient with megarectum concomitant
intractable constipation and encopresis, who is treated with complete success;
and this is the first pediatric patient case in the English literature.

Tedaviye dirençli kabızlığı
olan bazı hastalarda megarektum gelişebilir. Bu da rektumda his eşiğinin
artmasına ve rektal fullnes ın poor perception ına neden olur. En sonunda da
megarektum içinde daha fazla gaita birikir ve enkoprezis başlar. Bu sorun çocuk
ve aile için son derece can sıkıcı bir durumdur. Megarektum için önerilen bir çok cerrahi
prosedür vardır, örneğin anterior resection, proctectomy, endorectal
pull-through, Duhamel operation vs,
bunların da başarı ve morbidite oranları oldukça değişkendir. Megarektum cerrahisinde en yeni teknik vertical
reduction rectoplastidir ki sadece 16 erişkin hastada bildirilmiştir. Biz
burada tam başarıyla tedavi edilmiş tedaviye dirençli kabızlığı ve enkoprezisi olan megarektumlu bir çocuk
hastayı sunuyoruz ki bu İngilizce literatürdeki ilk çocuk olgudur.
