PURPOSE:We aimed to present the injury types, demographic characteristics, injury severity score(ISS), accident occurrence times-mechanisms, mortality and morbidity rates of pediatric patients who applied due to motorcycle accidents in the last 13 years and to present solution suggestions for preventing accidents.

METHODS:374 pediatric patients who applied due to motorcycle accidents between 2012-2025 were screened.3 patients were excluded from the study because they refused treatment, 2 patients because their treatment's completed in another hospital, 7 patients because they'd electric bicycle injuries.

RESULTS:336 of 362 patients're male.Mean age of patients's 14.9 years.213 of accidents occurred in fall and winter months, 223 of the accidents occurred in evening (between 19:00 and 07:00).3 patients're pedestrians, 69 patients're passengers, and 290 patients're drivers. 298 of the accidents occurred in form of collision.2 patients're brought to the emergency room in arrest state and exited.176 patients're discharged from the emergency room. 37 patients're admitted to 2nd level pediatric surgery intensive care unit, 54 patients're admitted to the 3rd level intensive care unit, 93 patients're admitted to any service other than pediatric surgery. One of the patients admitted to the pediatric surgery intensive care unit was later transferred to 3rd level intensive care unit due to progressive respiratory distress.Remaining 36 patients're discharged within an average of 3 days. 6 patients underwent surgery. One's operated by pediatric surgeon due to scrotal incision, while the remaining 5 patients underwent surgery due to bone fractures. Most common accompanying pathology's lung contusion. 50 of the patients'd lung contusion, 16'd spleen laceration, 13'd pneumothorax, 8'd liver laceration, and 3'd kidney laceration. 16 patients'd helmets, while 5 patients're found to be intoxicated at time of the accident. 24 patients're brought to the emergency room with tracheal intubation.Total of 8 patients exited.ISS average of all patients's 9.75, 15.68 for those hospitalized, 39 for those intubated.ISS score's above 15. There're 68 patients.Average hospitalization period of patients was 9 days. Most common finding after trauma's skin abrasion.Complications're observed in 15 patients. Most common of these's limited movement.

CONCLUSION:Motorcycle accidents're mortal and morbid in pediatric age group.Average of 25 pediatric patients apply for motorcycle accidents each year. Most of the applications occur in evening hours in fall-winter months.Although majority of patients're male drivers, protective equipment and alcohol use rates're low. It's thought that most important step in preventing accidents's awareness-raising activities.
