Introduction: Talocalcaneal coalitions are a common cause of rigid flatfoot and foot pain. Surgical treatment (coalition resection) is typically required for these patients.
Objective: To evaluate subtalar joint mobility at different time points after coalition resection.
Materials and Methods: We assessed subtalar joint mobility in 56 patients following talocalcaneal coalition resection. Intra-articular coalitions were present in 51 patients, while 5 patients had extra-articular coalitions. Mobility was evaluated through clinical assessment of passive foot inversion and eversion, as well as patients' subjective reports (changes in foot mobility postoperatively).
Results: At 3-year follow-up, 49 patients demonstrated increased passive foot inversion. Patients also reported subjective improvements in foot mobility (Chi-square test, p < 0.05).
Conclusion: Resection of talocalcaneal coalitions improves subtalar joint mobility, and the results remain stable over long-term follow-up.
