Introduction: Isolated cold abscess of the thigh without active tuberculosis elsewhere in the body is a rare entity and only a few cases have been reported in the literature. We report case series of 11 patients with tubercular thigh abscess
Methods: We reviewed 11 cases of children presenting with thigh swellings subsequently diagnosed as primary tubercular abscesses. All patients underwent abscess drainage in combination with standard anti-tubercular therapy for six months
Results: Median age of children at presentation was 10 months (1month -15 months). All children were immunized with BCG and BCG scar was present. Patients presented with thigh swelling and diagnosis was confirmed by imaging .Histopathology and CBNAAT was suggestive of tuberculosis.
Conclusion: Primary tubercular abscess of the thigh should be considered as the differential diagnosis of unexplained soft tissue swellings in children, even in the absence of systemic tuberculosis.
