The Effect of Hospitalization Duration on Patient and Family Satisfaction in Patients Undergoing Proximal Hypospadias Surgery

Aim: This study aims to determine the relationship between the length of hospital stay of patients who underwent distal hypospadias surgery and the satisfaction of the family and the patient.

Methods: Patients who were operated for distal hypospadias in our clinic between January-2021 and March-2023 were examined. A database containing patient demographics, surgical details and complications was created. Patients whose could not be reached by telephone and patients who underwent multiple sessions and fistula repair were excluded from the study. While demographic data were obtained from patient files, 20 questions were asked to parents via telephone. The responses received and analyzed.

Results: A total of 169 patients were included and 20 prepared questionnaires were asked to parents by telephone. The median age of the patients was 42 months, and mean operation time was 84 minutes. 159 of the patients were discharged with a catheter. 123 of them were hospitalized for 1 day. 33 of the patients who were hospitalized stated that they weren’t satisfied with the length of stay. Wanted to be hospitalized for a shorter period of time or not even hospitalized. 41 of the patients who were discharged on the same day stated that they were satisfied with their hospital stay. Same day discharge were more satisfied with their length of stay, while patients with 1 or longer hospitalization were less satisfied with their length of stay (p 0.002). Forty-three of the patients were admitted to the hospital due to catheter-related complications before the routine control, but the complication rates were unrelated to the length of stay. (p: 0.034)

Conclusion: The results of the 20-question survey conducted to evaluate the satisfaction with the length of stay of the patients who had proximal hypospadias surgery revealed that the patients wanted to be discharged on the same day.

Distal Hipospadias Cerrahisi Yapılan Hastalarda Hastane Yatış Sürelerinin Hasta ve Aile Memnuniyetine Etkisi

Amaç: Bu çalışma distal hipospadias cerrahisi yapılan hastaların hastane kalış süreleri ile aile ve hastanın memnuniyeti arasındaki ilişkiyi belirlemeyi amaçlamaktadır.

Yöntem: Ocak- 2021 ile Mart-2023 tarihleri arasında kliniğimizde hipospadias nedeni ile opere edilen hastalar incelendi. Distal hipospadias hastaları dahil edildi. Hasta demografisi, ameliyat detayları ve komplikasyonları içeren bir veri tabanı oluşturuldu. Telefon numaraları bulunamayan ya da telefon ile ulaşılamayan hastalar ile çoklu seans ve fistül onarımı yapılan hastalar çalışma dışında bırakıldı. Demografik veriler hasta dosyalarından elde edilirken, hazırlanan 20 adet anket soruları telefon aracılığı ile ebeveynlere soruldu. Alınan cevaplar veriler ile karşılaştırılarak incelendi.

Bulgular: Toplamda 169 hasta çalışmaya dahil edildi ve 20 adet hazırlanmış olan anket soruları ebeveynlere telefon ile soruldu. Hastaların median yaş 42 (min 6 maks189, IQR.16-89) ay, Op süresi mean 84±27 dakikaydı. Hastaların %90.4 ü (n=159) hasta sonda ile taburcu edildi. %73 ü 1 gün (n=123) hastanede yatmıştı. Hastane yatışı yapılan hastaların % 57.6 sı (n=33) yatış sürelerinden memnun olmadığını ve daha kısa süre yatmak istediğini hatta hastanede yatmak istemediğini belirtti. Aynı gün taburcu olan hastaların %97.6 sı (n=41) hastanede kaldığı süreden memnun olduğunu belirtti. Aynı gün taburcu olan hastalar yatış sürelerinden daha memnunken 1 ya da daha uzun yatışı olan hastalar yatış süresinden daha az memnundu (p 0.002). Hastaların 43 tanesi rutin kontrolden önce sonda ile alakalı komplikasyonlar nedeni ile hastaneye başvurmuştu ancak komplikasyon oranları yatış süresinden bağımsızdı. (p: 0.034)

Sonuç: Proksimal hipospadias cerrahisi geçiren hastaların yatış süresi ile ilgili memnuniyetini değerlendirmek için yapılan 20 soruluk anket sonuçlarında hastaların aynı gün taburcu olmak istediği belirlenmiştir.
